Earlier this month, Weber Shandwick Seattle worked with the Boao Forum for Asia to bring the organization’s seminal conference to North America for the first time. As the largest city in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle was chosen as the focal point of U.S. – Asia cooperation due to its reputation of being an incubator for innovation and one of the top places in the world for entrepreneurs, with a pedigree that includes world-class homegrown organizations such as Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon.com, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Starbucks, Costco and T-Mobile.
As new forms of international collaboration transform the way the world approaches major global problems, strong partnerships are growing increasingly vital to find effective solutions. In support of this effort, notable speakers including Washington State Governor Jay Inslee, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Co-Chair Bill Gates, Intellectual Ventures Co-Founder Edward Jung and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change Rajendra Pachauri joined more than 300 leading business executives, policymakers and experts to share their vision for healthy environments, economies and societies on a global scale. Countries from all around the Pacific Rim were well represented throughout the conference, with speakers and attendees from the U.S., China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and Singapore all actively participating in the solutions-focused dialogue.
As a show of collaboration and the unique Seattle spirit, Washington State Governor Inslee presented Seattle Seahawks 12th Man jerseys to former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia Yasuo Fukuda, and Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia, Wenzhong Zhou. Weber Shandwick Seattle also left its stamp as both a conference sponsor and partner by crafting the overarching media strategy and coordinating event logistics prior to the event; supporting media relations between conference speakers and local, national, and international publications; and running on-site public relations support throughout the conference.
The Boao Forum for Asia Seattle Conference proved that by building upon its rich history in trade, Washington is increasingly recognized as a key gateway to Asia and a leader in innovation and sustainability. Delegates engaged in dialogue with speakers and peers about policies to facilitate future developments and innovative ideas and projects in sustainability, clean energy and green growth. Additionally, networking events facilitated relationship building with industry pioneers and encouraged delegates to explore new investment opportunities. Like the topics discussed at the forum, media coverage for the three-day event spanned across borders, spreading messages of international collaboration to forge a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future.
