This week the U.S. Green Building Council hosted its annual GreenBuild Conference – the largest show dedicated to green building. With Colin Powell as the key note speaker, nearly 30,000 attendees and more than 1,800 exhibitors showcased green products from building materials to renewable energy technologies – this is the green event for the industry. Weber Shandwick Seattle client WindTronics exhibited its highly-anticipated Honeywell Wind Turbine – a new gearless small wind turbine that starts generating power at 0.5 mph. The WindTronics team reported a fire hose of visitors and echoed the crowd’s excitement for new renewable energy technologies. The turbine was even featured in USA Today’s coverage of the show.
To add more fuel to the fire, this year’s GreenBuild comes the same week the USGBC announced over 1 billion feet of building projects have been certified LEED (a deep green building certification) – with more than 6 billion feet of projects registered and working toward this certification. It’s clear that green building is moving beyond the realm of a few characters living off the grid and into the mainstream. Our team is excited to witness such change.
